Janet Walmsley is a specialist speech and language therapist who works with people with aphasia in the Centre. She supervises students and manages the clinic. You can contact her at j.s.walmsley@sheffield.ac.uk.

About eight people with aphasia come to each clinic session. Most people had a stroke some years ago. Some had a different kind of brain injury. They all come to work on their personal goals and meet other people in a relaxed environment.

Families can volunteer to help out for example in the café. They are also welcome to attend one session to learn about the aims and how to help with them.

About 16 students attend each session. They are training to become speech and language therapists. Janet supervises all the students.

Volunteers, who have had attended training on aphasia, come to help out and make the café run well. They have real interest in meeting people and making a difference.
